Tales from Turtle Island

Sunday June 4, 2017 Noon

Come one come all to this free event never before seen at the Blackburn FUNFAIR

This stage production incorporates both traditional storytelling theatre and Pow-wow dance performance.  This original double bill features a short theatrical production where mask, contemporary movement and a scripted narration bring a traditional story to life- followed by scripted dance descriptions and performances of Pow-wow dance. The production typically runs from 50 to 60 minutes and can include up to 4 different Pow wow dance styles, may include a hoop dance and a round dance with audience (if feasible).
Stories currently travelling are:
Medicine Beats – This presentation includes traditional elder teachings, still relevant today. As a grandfather shares the 7 grandfather teachings with his grandson, youth will see the balance of culture and teachings mixed with urban culture hip hop beats.
Nanabush & the Duck – This lively fun and interactive puppet production helps to bring one of our most beloved characters – Nanabush- (The Trickster) to life for children of all ages. Debuted at Almonte’s International Puppet Festival had a great reaction from the audience.
The Gift – A traditional legend that shares important teachings on how eagle was given “the gift” of his white head and what he learned from the other forest creatures along the way.
